Exhibition PeriodMay 2010

Behind the Wall

The design of Dragon Garden embraces both the natural landscape and concept of Feng Shui . The water vapor accumulates at the lower part of the garden and connects to the water-body (ocean) beyond the garden; where infinity and continuity of life is suggested. However, such concept had been attenuated as time has passed.

During the road enhancement of Tsing Lung Tau, Highways Department constructed a concrete retaining wall for Dragon Garden in the Castle-Peak-Road Widening-Project to mitigate noise. Unfortunately, the wall has greatly undermined the Feng Shui pattern of the Dragon Garden today.

Our installation addresses the issue of the wall as a barrier. We also take inspiration from the unique architectural feature of Dragon Garden: the mosaic tiles as the major decoration of building facades. In a conceptual dematerialization of the wall we restore the original sense of continuity.
